Common Problems With a Washing Machine and Their Effective Solutions

Washing machines are one of the most useful home appliances that have made our daily life much easier. But, like any other appliance in your house, even washing machines can face several technical issues and stop working. While you should always look for washer repair services if we’re talking about severe damage, there are a few common problems that don’t require professional assistance.

In fact, these issues can be fixed within a few minutes without using any special tools. In this article, we’re going to talk about a few of these common washing machine problems and how to fix them so that you can do the laundry without any interruption. It doesn’t matter which washing machine design/model you use, the following problems can occur with any washer.

The washer isn’t Turning On

To be honest, several factors can cause a washing machine to not turn on. For instance, if the power outlet is broken or its wiring is damaged, the washing machine won’t get any power and as a result, fail to start. Similarly, the tripped breaker can also cause a washing machine to not start. So, before bringing out your toolkit and opening up the washer, make sure to look for signs of damage in the power outlet. You can plug the machine in a different outlet to check if it works or not.

In case the power outlet is working properly, open the PCB panel, and look for loose wiring. There are many situations when the circuit board of the washer is damaged and may need a quick repair. However, proceed with extreme caution and make sure to unplug the machine before touching the circuit board. In case circuit boards and live wires are not your expertise, hire a washer repair expert to get the unit repaired by a professional.

Too Much Noise/Vibrations

All the washing machines have a suspension mechanism that keeps the cabinet balanced while spinning. However, with time this mechanism may not work properly and cause the cabinet to produce a loud rattle. If your machine has been doing the same, you’ll have to manually adjust all four legs to precisely level the cabinet. Start by adjusting the screws of the front two legs and then move towards the back.

If you encounter any wear and tear around the legs, it would be better to place the machine on a trolly that has adjustable screws. Also, to avoid such scenarios in the future, do not overload the machine with too many clothes. This is a great practice that’ll also increase the overall lifespan of your washing machine.

Washer Not Draining Properly

This is a common washing machine problem that generally doesn’t require professional washer repair. If your washer isn’t draining properly, it’s most likely that the drain hose has clogged up really bad. So, all you have to do is remove the hose and clean it properly to fix the issue.

Usually, the drain hose gets clogged up due to lint, which means it’ll be a bit struggling to clean it precisely. You can even use high-pressure water to remove the blockage from the hose. In case you see any signs of damage to the drain hose, it’ll be a better option to replace it with a new one.

If this doesn’t fix the issue, there’s also a probability that the drain pump has experienced damage. However, unlike the drain hose, it won’t be a wise approach to repair the pump by yourself. So, call a washer repair agency and let an expert repair/replace the broken drain pump.

Washer Stops Spinning Mid-Cycle

All the washing machines come with a lid-switch that’s placed under the lid. This switch will stop the washer to spin as long as the lid stays open. But, with time, this lid switch may experience severe damage and cause the washer to stop mid-cycle, even if the lid is closed. The only way to fix this problem is to replace the lid switch.

However, if you don’t see any signs of damage on the lid switch, it’s quite possible that it needs to be moved back to its exact location. If you don’t know how to reposition or replace a lid switch, either check the manufacturer’s guide or avail professional washer repair services.

Bottom Line

These are a few of the most common washing machine problems that people encounter every now and then. The good news is that they aren’t severe technical issues and you can even fix them by yourself. However, if you don’t want to take any risks and stay on the safe side, go ahead, and book a professional washer repair service. This way you can stay assured that your washing machine will be repaired and it won’t encounter the same problem in the near future.
